Abstract
Clinicopathologic study and immunohistochemical analysis of p53 were performed on 60 cases of resected colorectal carcinoma at Dong-A Medical Center through about 40 months in order to elucidate the biologic characteristics of mucinous carcinoma,
compared with non-mucinous carcinoma.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1) The incidence of mucinous carcinoma in the age less than 40 was significantly higher than that of non-mucinous carcinoma. The mucinous carcinoma showed significantly more increased depth of invasion Also mucinous type showed relatively
higher
incidence of right colon location, more increased size and advanced stages, But there was no statistical difference. 2) The mucinous carcinoma showed more increased p53 expression than nonmucinous carcinoma, but the was no statitistical
significance.
In conclusion, the mucinous colorectal carcinoma occurs in younger age and shows more increased depth of invasion at presentation, compared with non-mucinous carcinoma, but the separation of mucinous type from colorectal carcinoma as an
independent
prognostic factor is uncertain.
